Founding of New Light Baptist ChurchEstablishing the Church
Saturday, January 28, 1957. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20) The first meeting to discuss organizing a Church was January 28, 1957 and was held in the home of Clifford and Sara Reece. This is where meetings continued for Sunday School and Church Services until the church building was completed. Several meetings were held to discuss and adopt the Articles of Faith, Church Covenant, and Church Rules to be used. The church was organized April 7, 1957, and first pastor was Rev. Joe Crowe. |
Naming the Church
|
In naming the Church, each person suggested a name and after hearing all names, everyone agreed on the name New Light, suggested by Willie D. Johnson, mother of Helen Payne and Ruth Ann Purcell.
